President

Lori Smith
Lori has lived in Eugene most of her life.  She now resides in Eugene with her husband and their two children. She volunteered for years at the Child Advocacy Center for the District Attorney's office helping abused children. Now her time is devoted to helping homeless animals find homes which has always been where her heart lies. She also volunteers at LCAS and fosters animals when time permits. Her main purpose for founding Save the Pets was to eventually open an animal adoption center for homeless and abandoned pets.

Treasurer

Pam Basilius
I am proud to say that starting in January 2011 I joined the the board of STP and am looking forward to the positive things we can do for animals. In the past I have had horses and many rescued animals but my main interest has always been for big dogs until I adopted the sweetest Chihuahua puppy recently. Currently there are 24 hens, a rooster, my kitty Merlin, puppy Olivia and 4 foster cats who reside at my home. My long term goal is to be able to travel around where needed in the event of catastrophes like Katrina and the Gulf oil spill to help the animals.

Vice President/Dog Foster Coordinator

Sondra Arrache
Sondra is an angel, always there when you need her! She has helped Save the Pets place some 'hard to place' dogs. By finding fosters and fostering herself, her dedication really made a difference in the lives of many dogs. She has a fondness for pit bulls and the ones she devotes her time to saving are the lucky ones. She never gives up hope! Sondra is a devoted animal advocate who has volunteered for other organizations including Luv-a-Bull for many years. We are so grateful to have her be a part of our organization and our community!

BOD/Dog Foster Coordinator

Lisa Warnes
I have been with Save The Pets for almost a year and a half doing rescue and adoption work for dogs. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for animals and have been deeply saddened over how much neglect and abuse there is going on in the world with these innocent creatures.
I got involved with Save The Pets (STP) after following the saga of a dog named Axel that was out at Lane County Animal Services. He had been there for seven months and I could not take it any longer so I went down there to meet this dog and I got to know him over the course of several days and I decided to foster him and that is where STP came in. They took him out of LCAS making it possible to foster him. I soon realized that I was a failed foster because I fell in love and adopted him. He is the best dog but because he was black and had some Pit- bull in him he did not stand a chance.   Working with STP and watching a dog flourish that was likely doomed has really helped my heavy heart. It is not possible to save all of the animals that need help but being part of saving some of them makes it more bearable for me knowing that I am doing something to help rather than just sitting around feeling hopeless.  I wish I could do more for our furry friends but I am proud to say that during my time with STP I have been directly involved with saving several dozen dogs that are now in good foster homes or forever homes.

Spayship Director

Lisa Wahl
Born in Glens Falls, NY, Lisa moved to Oregon in 1998. She started volunteering at her local animal shelter, the Los Angeles SPCA, in 1987. Since then, she has volunteered for about a dozen different groups, some small, some huge, started a group in LA, Kitten Rescue (no relation to the KR there now) and another one in Coos County, All 4 Animals. She lived in Coos County from 1998-2004, then in Milton-Freewater from 2004-2006, where she worked with Pets of Milton-Freewater. Lisa bought an RV in 2005 and spent a lot of time moving around mostly in Oregon, but including some months in New Orleans helping with post-Katrina animal rescue. She has been a full-time RVer for a little over a year, volunteering at State Parks as a Camp Host, SNIP House in Prineville, and WAG here in Eugene.

Volunteer Coordinator/Event Planner

Jessica Calsada
Jessica is thrilled to be a part of the Save the Pets team.  Prior to moving to Eugene she worked as a Marketing Manager for an IT distribution, sales and marketing company in Southern California.  At the end of 2009 Jessica adopted her first rescue dog, Harper, from an animal shelter in Los Angeles.  She was not much of a “pet person” prior to the adoption, but that all changed the first night Harper came home.  Jessica hopes that by volunteering with Save the Pets she can help others find the happiness, love and companionship she has found with Harper.  Combined with her passion for finding loving homes for animals and her background in marketing and event planning, she hopes to contribute to a cause that creates a little more love in the world.

Jessica enjoys attending concerts, playing softball and baking.

BOD/STP Group Advisor

Shawn Tucker
Shawn moved here over 8 years ago and fell in love with the area and decided to stay to make Eugene his home.  He joined STP in 2009 to help save animals.  He works with LCAS and Petsmart to set up weekly adoption events for dogs from the shelter as well as dogs in the STP foster program.  He is appreciative to work with such great people with compassion for animals.  He has been an animal advocate his entire life and has a variety of pets of his own including dogs, cats, lizards, snakes and fish.  One of his pets is Queenie, a pitbull Terrier mix that resided in STP foster for quite some time before he decided to adopt her himself.  They are now inseperable!

I believe that people have an obligation to ensure a happy, healthy life for all animals.  To stay true to my belief I have been involved in animal rescue (mainly cats) for the past 12 years.  I first got involved by volunteering with Feral Cat Coalition, a group that had a mobile spy/neuter truck and came to the Eugene area 6 times a years to spay/neuter feral cats.  I had just moved into a new house and realized that there were approximately 40 – 60 feral cats living at the end of my street so I started to trap, neuter, release and manage the colony.  From there it was a natural progression to find homes for the friendly cats.  Then I started volunteering with Florence Humane Society at Petsmart on weekends to adopt out cats and dogs.  I continued to rescue cats on my own and try to find homes for them but it was getting harder to afford all the preadoption expenses so I worked with several small rescue groups until Save the Pets came on the scene and I knew that we both had the same vision of animal rescue.  Another passion is volunteering with Pro Bone O which has vet clinics twice a month for animals of the homeless.

I am slave and chief cat litter box scooper to 5 indoor cats, several former feral cats who make their home in my yard and on the heating pads in my garage and a changing number of fosters.  I even find time to walk some of Save the Pets pit bull fosters.  I work as an instructional assistant for LESD in a life skills middle school classroom with children who have developmental disabilities.

Secretary

Vanessa Wells-Horner.  Vanessa works at WAG spay and neuter clinic. She has been actively involved with many local non-profit animal rescues in our community and we are thrilled to have her on board.

Personal Trainer

Darla Wardrip
I share my home with my husband and 4 of 5 children on our 7 acre farm just minutes out of Springfield, Oregon. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, a pony, 2 goats, 5 chickens, 5 ducks, 4 pigeons, a rabbit and a pot-belly pig. All my animals are involved in the rehabilitating of some "hard case" dogs that lack in social abilities. There are normally 1-2 foster dogs that I board & train at any given time.  Over the last 20 years I have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed 50 plus dogs. I have mostly practiced "traditional methods" up until the last 4 yrs. Since then I've been studying dog psychology and behavior modification.  I now teach "pack dynamics" with positive reinforcement to any dog that comes to stay with us and my increasing clientele. I have worked with Save the Pets since 2009 which has included fostering dogs, boarding & training hard to place dogs, temperament testing, dog intros and assisting at adoptathons.

Cat Foster Program

Kirsten Harris
I have lived in the area most of my life.  I have a horse, bird, dog and 4 cat's.  As a child I would bring all kinds of animals home.  From cats, dogs, to baby sheep and chickens.  In high school I got involved in the FFA program.  From there my love and veterinary knowledge grew.  I have been  working with and rehabbing all types of animals for 17 years.  Over the years I have worked with other rescue groups and vet clinics.  Since Save The Pets is a non-kill rescue group, I am able to work with injured, ill and or newborn cats.  To give them a second chance of life.

Board of Director

Lynell Stokes
Lynell is new to the Board of Save the Pets, but has been a strong supporter of the organization since 2007. Lynell and her company, Golden Realty have sponsored events and fundraisers for Save the Pets, and have also contributed and donated to other non-profit animal organization. Lynell is passionate about all animals, but is partial to dogs--especially Golden Retrievers. She loves Golden Retrievers so much, she and her partner even made it part of their business name! Lynell currently has 2 dogs, 2 cats and 13 Koi fish. Outside her work with Save the Pets, Lynell and her Golden Retriever - “Goldie” recently retired after serving 7 years as Pet Partners with the Delta Society and PAAWS.
